Firstly, I bought the Kindle version and paid $15.99. I'm an old fart and generally prefer physical media, but for some technical books, the electronic book makes sense. I was trying to decide between this book and David Busch's, but the latter was twice the price and not that much bigger, so I went for the Dummies book.Previously, I had downloaded the official Canon PDF and put it on my Ipad and used the Kindle Reader with it. It worked fine and was sufficient, but hoped the Dummies book would add something - not much at all. It appears the Dummies books in electronic format do not have an index - bad call! I know you can search, but something as simple as "remote shooting" gives too many answers and it's just cumbersome. In the pdf manual I can look in the index and go to the appropriate page. Much better.I'm not a critic, but the Appendix on Wifi - which could have made the whole thing worthwhile, was less than clear and poorly organized I thought.

The Canon instruction book does an OK job of telling you HOW to make settings on the T7i, but King gives clear, highly-informed explanations of WHY to make settings -- and why not to. She makes this accessible to relative novices as well. For example, the T7i has an option of using a very clever, simplified "guided" interface. I thought it was my duty to learn that first, but King says, paraphrasing, "Nope, forget it. If you're reading this book, it'll just get in the way of really taking control... and it's not compatible with more advanced Canon dSLRs." Who knew? There is plenty of great advice like that in this book. There are copious, helpful, COLOR illustrations. (Dummies veterans know about the black-and-white world.) Highly critical in a book like this, there's a top-notch, detailed INDEX. I'd estimate that I've saved at least a month of fiddling and frustration by having this book at hand. The camera is a fabulous, almost miraculous feat of photographic and digital technology. But there's A LOT to learn. Buy this book (I strongly recommend the printed version) and really take advantage of everything your camera offers to take you into a far more advanced world of photography than what your smartphone makes possible.

The book is good in that the print is large and my old eyes can read it. It is also well laid out with easy to follow graphics, but I would advise using the camera, and the official instruction manual, as you read it because in doing so I have found quite a few factual errors. It helps a lot to reference the Canon's "Basic Instruction Manual" as you read this book because it will clear up some of the errors in the dummies book. Sorry but I ain't as dumb as I look...

Bought a T7i for my wife. After watching her struggle her way through the manual for a few days I bought her the dummies book. It says exactly the same thing as the manual but comes with colored photos and a better step by step how to. Well worth the price just to see her do more with it then just taking a standard photo.

This books takes the reader from basic operations through to advanced techniques. The explanations and illustrations are clear and concise. If camera manuals were written this well, there wouldn't be a market for Dummies books like this.

If you get the T7i you have to get this book! The owners manual reads like it was written by a technician but not this book. Easy to read, easy to follow.

Slowly, Merton instructs, clarifies and challenges us, chapter after chapter to focus on the real world we cannot see. He insists, "Every movement of my own natural appetite, even though my nature is good in itself, tends in one way or another to keep alive in me the illusion that is opposed to God's reality living within me." By themselves, the focus can only be on "the one I cannot be, the false-self in me, the person that God does not know." As the chapter heading says, we must "pray for our own discovery."A great resource to accompany this book is given to us by James Finley, a former monk at Gethsemane at the time Merton was there, and from whom he received frequent Spiritual Direction. In his talks that come to us in the series, Thomas Merton's Path to the Palace of Nowhere, Finley gives first-hand knowledge of the value of Merton's instruction as well as a comprehensive plan and purpose of using such a book like this and the scope of what it entails, like a journal of thoughts: forming a meditative exercise taken from that which is derived from reading and reflecting on Merton’s words. The human mind can be so distracted or unstable at times and can need more time than we imagine to be able to grasp great truths and ideas and integrate them practically into our everyday lives. The suggestion that two or three years spent with the works of a great Master, digesting it fully but little by little, should not seem out of the question. And so, I apply the advice given there to this work of Merton, that "We never get a proper hold of a great spiritual doctrine until we have lived in it and been saturated by it. The soul must soak in the brine until it has become wholly impregnated with its qualities." It is a good teaching from which we can all learn. Merton has provided the brine. We must soak in it.In the Spiritual Life, the goal is always God: God possessing us and us possessing God. This means there's a lot in our lives that must undergo scrutiny. This means that there are things that should or must be eliminated. In the process, there are things that must be gained. This has to include sanctification, the path the saints travelled. Merton tells us, "for me, to be a saint is to be myself." That is a long path for most of us. Therefore, sanctity is "finding out who I am and of discovering my true self." So, to reach the point where we seek the ultimate goal of life, means to have or find and enter a complex path which Merton calls "Integrity" and explains, "In order to become myself I must cease to be what I always thought I wanted to be, and in order to find myself I must go out of myself, and in order to live I have to die," not much different from what Jesus tells us in the gospel, "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life?" (Mt 16:25-26). All of this takes time! We must give it the time it deserves. Merton will teach us, slowly! He will give us the principles we need to live this out. The most significant gem that I have found in this book is under the heading of "Mental Prayer." It's worth making a copy of the few pages and carrying around with us. It's food and instruction that we can never tire of receiving. It's something that, even when we are sure what he is saying there, it is worth going back to many times throughout the year.Maybe two or three years are not enough! Maybe there are things that each of us can find in this great work that we must spend a life with! That's what Finley suggests!

The content of this book has overwhelmed me again and again, and it’s hard to believe that Thomas Merton had the maturity and knowledge, while he was in his twenties, to write such an amazing work. For a twenty something to have such a vast vocabulary is quite an accomplishment. This book inspires the reader to question his or her own opinions and level of spiritual commitment to his or her faith, but Merton has beliefs and understandings about his Catholic faith that I didn’t agree with and seems too extreme even for someone who lives in a monastic society.This book does not compare to his book “The Seven Story Mountain.” I felt The Seven Story Mountain was an inspiring work that was easy to read, and I just loved that book and it inspired me to read this book.But, I found the content of this book to be convoluted and difficult to follow at times. On many occasions, Merton would go on and on about a particular topic, he felt strongly about, and that became very tiresome, but keep in mind that Thomas Merton was a young writer, when he wrote this book, so that might explain why so much of this book was long winded. I also felt Merton was a bit angry or disappointed with the church’s understanding or perceptions of a contemplative life, and he had an axe to grind.I think Thomas Merton is a true scholar and has a lot of work that is stellar, so I would encourage people to look at some of his other books.

Merton is articulate - that was evident and well done. The book left me disappointed. The picture of the contemplative and man's true identity are an ideal far removed and out of reach for the ordinary person. If his ideas are correct as they very well may be, there is lingering gap in the "How To" in this work and so so many contemporary works, movements and ideas. After reading this, it is very clear that I do not posses the willingness to self-discipline myself into the mystical union of God as Man. Merton also makes clear that this union with God is at the apex, a measure of grace that is therefore initiated by God for the person seeking Him. I was left feeling once again that a beautiful ideal is not to be experienced by the ordinary person. The core ideas make sense and coupled with similar contemporary readings and practices will at the lease attempt to congeal the general idea that we are all one and we are all an expression of God.

Good book. It’s detailed like any human growth book. Although—I don’t like how subjects, definitions, etc are highlighted—I’d rather do that myself. Having to find a binder for it just goes to show the publishers are cheaper than dirt and want to take every advantage imaginable to make sure you won’t resell the book. On th surface it may seem as if a convenience, you can take which pages you need. But the underlying reason is clearly monetary. Education shouldn’t be expensive. I can get the exact same education at a library for free. I only purchased this book specifically for class. The minute they started making education a business was the minute they dismantled the system. Another thing is that the book is way too cheap. With a binder, the pages easily rip out of the book, rendering it nearly useless. $100 for this? No, thanks. Never mind I’m writing this, this is coming from someone who takes very good care of their belongings. Now I have to buy hole punch savers. Thanks for nothing.

Well written, very up to date, comprehensive, easy to understand and informative. Couldn't have asked for a better guide through my Developmental Psychology class! I got an A in the class and a better understanding of humans development. I took it as part of my pre-nursing requirement and I can say it will definitely help later on down the road in my future career.

After becoming interested in the tuning process for my 2006 Subaru WRX I ran into this book and after looking at the reviews decided it would be a good start.After reading it all the way through I can say that it was a perfect fit for where I was at knowledge wise. I'd say this is a good fit for someone that already works on cars and has a solid understanding of the basics of how a gasoline engine works and what the basics components in the engine bay are.When you want to go past the basics and learn what's really making the efi system work this will explain in detail each part of tuning an engine. It covers engine ecu inputs and outputs, sensors, how they work, and the part each plays in the tuning process as well as the steps you take when the car is on the Dyno to start developing an accurate model of engine airflow and fuel flow to make everything run right.I'll say that I did get lost during a few more technical parts of the book but I probably understood about 80-90% of what was touched on and I think that is a real success. With some work memorizing some important terms and perhaps another read through or two of the more complex parts I'll have a solid understanding of the basics.For someone looking at this book with a background in Subarus I can say that the book offers several pictures of and references to the WRX STI and for the year the book was released all the info is relevant for your GD and GR model year Subaru's using the USDA EJ20 and 25 engines. I really would have liked to see a specific example of the approach to tuning a Subaru or really anly import in general but unfortunately the only examples in the book are for Ford and GM vehicles. Less time spent on carborator and distributor discusion and function would he appreciated in an updated version as well sense they are not involved in an EFI system and don't help to teach EFI concepts except for maybe a very brief overview of their purpose compared to current day technologies. Non the less, the info contained was very useful to me and with more reading and some hands on practice I think this books will get a beginner well on their way to understanding efi and getting started with some basic tuning.

I felt the author was just trying to impress you with his knowledge than giving any instruction.

I am looking into installing a stand-alone engine management (megasquirt) in my vehicle and decided I needed a more "put together" source of information regarding how an engine operates and how to best tune for all running conditions.I really liked how this book is organized and illustrated. Broken up into logical chapters that are easily understood.After reading the book cover-to-cover I can say that I have learned all I need to get started with my adventures in engine tuning.While this book is not going to give you any hand outs, it will teach you the basics and their effects on an engine.

Lots of useful information for making an EFI fueled engine. Unfortunately assumes the builder has access to a chassis dyno for calibration. In my area the minimum charge for a chassis dyno session is as much as my engine and transmission together. Really needs to outline a less expensive calibration regimen instead of the chassis dyno.

This is one of the best automotive performance books I've read. Very thorough. He goes deep into the physics and science of engine operation and controls, and explains it so you don't need a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering to understand it. That's different than many similar books which are light on explaining the basics, and too heavy on sample aftermarket packages.

This is the best book (so far!) that I've read on the explanations of how the modern engines are controlled by their on-board "computer," the ECU. Explains what "Maps" are and how they affect EVERYTHING in your car engine!

Great read, but sometimes it is hard to follow. Not from a technical perspective, but the authors writing style is all over the place at time.

This book does a great job of describing how engine computers do their job, giving you a good basis to start learning to tune. Some books/courses are just a list of steps to take, and when you're done you really don't have a good idea what you did, but it hopefully works well enough. This book is a nice addition to fill in the "why" and "how" questions so you can understand much better what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it works.

Instead, startups fail when they hit the marketing wall.According to The Economist (2014 Sep 13), "marketers say they have seen more change in the past two years than in the previous 50."According to the Harvard Business Review (2014 July-August, p. 56) "In the past decade, what marketers do to engage customers has changed almost beyond recognition....we can't think of another discipline that has evolved so quickly."It can seem like marketing is getting harder each year, but actually in some ways it's getting easier and cheaper, e.g., Facebook's targeted ads. What's needed is a guide to how marketing is changing.Unlike the zillions of e-books about Facebook marketing, Twitter marketing, etc., my book would cover and compare all marketing channels. Unlike the e-books, my book would include case studies of real companies. Unlike the marketing textbooks, my book would focus on tech startups, not on dog treat bakeries and corner grocery stores. I've been head of marketing and strategy for startups and interesting brands for several years, and this was the first book I've ever read that is actually useful and something I frequently reference in channel, strategy and overall marketing brainstorming sessions. Why? Because it provides a comprehensive view of contemporary best-practices in marketing, without all the old baggage and fluff to which many marketers still cling. Today's marketing means you're actually responsible for revenue. If you're still doing the kind of marketing that focuses on activity and top-of-funnel vanity metrics (like how many unsuspecting tradeshow attendee badges you zapped thanks to your TV giveaway, or passing a huge seemingly impressive number of crappy MQLs to sales so you can hit your quotas), then please don't waste your time reading this. You won't get it, or you work somewhere where you can't actually apply this learning due to all the internal risk-adverse forces working against you. For everyone else who believes in the new of ways of marketing (basically, marketing without all the BS), this book and others in the series should be in your e-reader or physically sitting next to your laptop right now.

Traction was extremely helpful for me as a budding entrepreneur and author. In the book, Weinberg and Mares lay out 19 different "traction channels" everyone looking for their next client should consider. Furthermore, they challenge you to give a hard look to some of the channels you would normally dismiss without a second thought. Why? Sometimes the channel you least thought would work turns out to be highly effective.Something I appreciated about this book was how much objective research went into it. The list of traction channels wasn't something they pulled out of their backside, but rather something that resulted from extensive interviews with entrepreneurs and business people who have experienced real-life success with them.The only reason I didn't give Traction five stars is because many of the sections lacked the practical advice needed to put these strategies into action. To that extent, I felt like it left me hanging in quite a few areas. Not every reader is going to know who to contact for a PR campaign, how to get started with SEO, or the best way to setup a sales process/team. If you are looking for very specific information like this, realize that this book won't deliver it to you.Now to be fair - each of the 19 channels probably deserves its own book to describe such detail, and I don't think this book was intended to be an encyclopedic guide to implementing every channel. This book was surely intended to be more of a top-level overview. To that end, it was great for calibrating one's understanding (from a leadership/executive perspective) of each channel. It inspired me to think outside the box with my own business and projects, and I still found a lot of value in it.Anyone new to the startup world or who plans to start their own business deserves to read this book - and probably also the Lean Startup by Eric Ries. Some have said Traction and the Lean Startup go hand-in-hand, with Traction focusing more on customer acquisition and Lean Startup focusing more on product development. The build-measure-learn concept is present in each, however, and is a clear theme for all new business owners.Once again, would certainly recommend to anyone new to the startup world or entrepreneurship. It's a quick and easy read with many good ideas.

Simple, but worthwhile book. I've re-read it a few times. It's basic point is that there are (at least) 19 channels to gain traction (customers) for a product or service, and we tend to only look at a few we might be familiar with. The second point is that after traction in one channel is achived, for additional traction, a different channel or tactic is likely needed for the next phase. Detailed discussion of the different channels and examples of their use in various organizations. Definitely worthwhile for those who are doing product marketing, at any stage of an organization's growth.

This book is, itself, an excellent re-ordering of St. Louis Dr Monfort's treatise in that instead of flipping back and forth through the book for the various items you need for each day's devotion, everything you need for a particular day is found, in order, under that day's heading. This transforms a complicated process into a very convenient and easy to follow devotion. I highly recommend this book on that basis alone.There is a large caveat, however, to wit: whomever prepared the Kindle edition must surely have failed to submit it to a proofreader, as there typos, omissions, and misspellings on every page. This naturally disrupts the flow of reading, which is bad enough for one in prayer, but it also introduces actual error into what the Saint is writing. A revised, carefully corrected edition must be prepared and issued quickly!
