Great book. Quality pictures and info.

no how-to book will teach everybody everything, but this one is worth the price. nice colour pics that actually help.

I was not aware that there are so many varity,s of flames and related graphics. This is an excellent book to jump start your efforts. It also includes some great links to the many suppliers and artists that define the world of automotive art.

This is an excellent guide to painting flames for someone such as myself knew to airbrushing. I'm not what one would call artistic so the book is great in that it lays the steps out for someone more "left brain" dominant to follow.

This is a very inspirational book! great tutorials and very nice information about some general fields in custom painting. If you feel you like some flame works, you'll find this book leads you to flame almost anything around you... BEWARE! maybe you never stop!I suggest to read this book together with "How to paint your car" also from Motorbooks, this one first because maybe you'd like to start with some nice graphics before putting yourself on a whole car painting job.

This is a cute book. There are two things that caused me to give it three stars: 1) its size. When I think of a book made up of photographs, I tend to think of a large, glossy, sits-on-your-coffee-table sized book. 5" x 8" matte was a surprise. Yes, I should have paid more attention to the description, but a small book didn't cross my mind. 2) The location of the captions/information about the photographs. I understand not wanting to place type over a photograph that fills the page. However, 81 photos out of the 100 contained in the book had white/blank space either around the photograph or on the opposite page that could have contained the simple description that is given at the back of the book. Instead, one looks at the photo and then must flip to the index if they wish to know anything further such as time period or location of the photo (if available).

i bought this as a gift for the woman who taught me to knit. she really enjoyed it. its a really cool look at knitting throughout history with pictures you really dont think of when you hear "knitting" --- the only thing we didnt really love is that all the discriptions are referenced in the back. i get the point to not take away from the aesthetic of the photo. but its a bit of a pain to have to flip through to the back to read about any of the photos. -- also, even though the size is listed. i failed to really pay much attention to that it the book is smaller than what i imagined. which is fine, just so if anyone is thinking the way i was, let it be know that it is not a very large book :)

This is, as has been said, a charming book. It shows knitting in social contexts over time, and I enjoyed looking at it that way. It is, however, a small book - less than 5.5" by 8", so the images are not large. Some are full page, others are snap shots that are a fair bit smaller than a full page. The photos are not, in general, particularly clear. If your interest is in details about the actual knitting, you may be disappointed, but it's a nice collection.

Not sure why so many give this one four and five stars nor what I was hoping for (maybe more text to accompany the photos?) but this was a total waste of money and time. Definitely not anything I would look at more than once. There are more and better pictures on Pinterest - and all for free.

I love this book. It is as unadulterated as knitting itself. The photos speak volumes about this craft. I had quit knitting in favor of quilting and given my supplies to my daughter, but now I want to go right back out and buy more needles and wool and be part of history again!

I like the photos but I did expect a coffee table book. The size IS in the description though so mostly my own fault for not paying attention. 5.2 x 0.6 x 7.9 inches

This is a little book full of charming vintage photos of people knitting. Wish the captions ere on the same page as the pictures rather than in a list a the back. It's a bit inconvenient to have to keep flipping back and forth.

This book of photos is wonderful! I have looked through it several times. Seeing so many stars from the past made it most enjoyable!

Stephanie J. Coopman (Ph.D., University of Kentucky) is Professor of Communication Studies at San Jose State University. Meet my expectations? How could it not? It is considered the "Bible" on theTheory. Furthermore, one of the best "popularized" books on Quantum Mechanicsis the pocket sized "The Quantum World" which follows the topics in Dirac's "QuantumMechanics" for laymen by Professor of Mathematical Physics, at Cambridge, J. C.Polkinghorne. He learned the subject attending PAM Dirac's classes from his own book.Professor PAM Dirac ended his days by retiring to a Professor Emeritus chair at FloridaState University (right here) in Tallahassee, FL.

A lot of stuff in the beginning is accessible and some of the later stuff is possibly accessible if you've had a great teacher who followed this book (and they won't because they find it excessively hard themselves) in their course work. Even Feynman said "They had these great formulations in Dirac's book and in Heidler's. I couldn't quite read the books. They were too hard for me. ". A lot of the stuff is simply ruminations on research that PAMD was doing then and some of it that wasn't. Anyway, its a QM book for the mathematically proficient. A QM book for researchers and mathematicians. For all else, there's Shankar and Griffiths. However, I'd pick up the book for Chapter 1 alone. Its concise and beautifully expressed.

Review of "The Principles of Quantum Mechanics" by P.A.M. Dirac. Oxford University Press (1958).The book is just over 300 pages including the Index. It is of historical interest, mainly. There are better treatments of the subject, but this is an original work and stands monumental in that regard, historically. The originality and its place in history is this works strength and it stands on its own as a classic in modern theoretical physics, unmatched in many ways in that sense.This book was first published in 1930. In 1928, Dirac's application of the relativistic treatment of spin-1/2 particles leads to both positive- and negative-energy solutions to the electron. This book was made new in paperback in 1981. It has been reprinted 9 times since. The last reprinting was in 1993. It has a Preface to the first edition, which you should read using the Amazon "Look Inside!" feature. You can view the Contents of the book there, too. There you will find that the book's contents are made up of twelve Chapters and a small Index.Quantum reality places the subject back into the study of the objective world. Listen to the author in his own words:"This state of affairs is very satisfactory from a philosophical point of view, as implying an increasing recognition of the part played by the observer in himself introducing the regularities that appear in his observations, and a lack of arbitrariness in the ways of nature, but it makes things less easy for the learner of physics."If, in your enquiry into quantum mechanics, you have read about these philosophical changes brought about from the discovery of quantum reality, then reading the words of one of its legends will reinforce why many modern physicist's sound more like philosophers than physicists. Here is the author, again, in his own words:"The methods of progress in theoretical physics have undergone a vast change during the present century. The classical tradition has been to consider the world to be an association of observable objects (particles, fluids, fields, etc.) moving about according to definite laws of force, so that one could form a mental picture in space and time of the whole scheme. This led to a physics whose aim was to make assumptions about the mechanism and forces connecting these observable objects, to account for their behaviour in the simplest possible way. It has become increasingly evident in recent times, however, that nature works on a different plan. Her fundamental laws do not govern the world as it appears in our mental picture in any very direct way, but instead they control a substratum of which we cannot form a mental picture without introducing irrelevancies."In Chapter X "Theory of Radiation" Dirac derives his theory of radiation in which he connects bosons to oscillators. Relating a system "S (say a quantizied atom)to its Hermitian operator Ho," he was able to identify the states of an assembly of bosons with the states of a set of oscillators. "This means that *the dynamical system consisting of an assembly of similar bosons is equivalent to the dynamical system consisting of a set of scillators--the two systems are just the same system looked at from two different points of view.*" (Dirac pg 228-229). Von Neumann, probably the greatest mathematician of the 20th century, in his book "Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Mechanics", called Dirac's radiation theory "one of the most beautiful achievements in the quantum mechanical field." (Von Neumann, pg. 255)In the last chapter, the author solves both a positive-energy and a negative-energy solution for an equation (now called the "Dirac equation") that applies relativistic solutions to the problem of particle physics, specifically, that of elementary spin-1/2 particles like the electron. The positive-energy solution is the electron. The author doesn't ignore the negative-energy solution, though! This is one of the philosophical differences between quantum mechanics and classical mechanics. Dirac simply allows the mathematical result of a negative-energy solution to suggest that another particle actually exists in reality, every way equal to that of the electron, but opposite in sign. This would be like an antimatter particle to the electron! This would be unheard of but perhaps for science fiction writers. Here is the author in his own words:"In this way we are lead to infer that the negative-energy solutions of (56) refer to the motion of' a new kind of particle having the mass of an electron and the opposite charge. Such particles have been observed experimentally and are called *positrons*. We cannot, however, simply assert that the negative-energy solutions represent positrons, as this would make the dynamical relations all wrong. For instance, it is certainly not true that a positron has a negative kinetic energy. We must therefore establish the theory of the positrons on a somewhat different footing. We assume that *nearly all the negative-energy states are occupied*, with one electron in each state in accordance with the exclusion principle of Pauli. An unoccupied negative-energy state will now appear as something with a positive energy, since to make it disappear, i.e. to fill it up, we should have to add to it an electron with negative energy. We assume that *these unoccupied negative-energy states are the. positrons*"The positron was confirmed by Carl Anderson just two short years later in 1932.P.A.M. Dirac was an Englishman. Since he is one of the early founders and contributors to Quantum Mechanics, I suggest that you read up on him if you haven't learned that much about him in the past. I always appreciate a book more if I know a little bit about the author. In the Wiki on him I just learned that he married Eugene Wigner's sister. Cool. It is a small world.I hope I have peaked your interest enough to make a purchase today.

His insight into the physical interpretation of the formalism of Quantum Mechanics has no precedent. Almost every physicist around the world agrees that HE IS MASTER DIRAC, so an insight into his vision of the theory is invaluable.This is not a didactic book, in fact, in my opinion, it is not even to be considered a text book. Its value concerns the rigorous development of the formalism of QM, as well as a firm base for the understanding of the very principles of it. I'd say it's better for people who have struggling qith the ideas of QM for a while already, that for who are just starting with them.

A classical text book, although the tone is pretty dry. I would not use this as a primary undergraduate book, but appreciate its historical importance.

This book is the basis of Quantum Mech any physicist that respect him or herself should read Dirac because it resembles the origins and gives the best description of QM there can be in this book you can feel the real possibilities of QM I say possibilities because at the time QM wasn't fully developed, or at least as thought through as it is now.Either way this is a basic book for anyone intending to study physics I really recommend it.One thing you should know is that the image given here is the not the real one, you should look at th one given by me, is one taken from the look inside, that has the real cover. But as it is always said you should never judge a book by its cover, even more so if the one who wrote it was the best physicist in the last century.

About the Author

Dana S. Seetahal SC was an attorney at law of over 30 years’ experience. She was a private practitioner who appeared for both the defence and the State. She was also a public prosecutor for several years and a senior lecturer at the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad and Tobago for 12 years. She held a Master of Science in Criminology from Florida State University and was a Fulbright scholar. Ms Seetahal wrote widely and presented numerous papers on criminal justice and related areas. She acted as a criminal justice consultant to governments across the region and various international bodies. Ms Seetahal was for eight years an independent senator in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. In January 2006 she was appointed Senior Counsel. Tragically Dana Seetahal was murdered in May 2014 at Woodbrook, Trinidad. Her untimely passing left relatives, friends and the legal fraternity in a state of shock at the callousness of her assassination. In 2011, when I, Roger Ramgoolam, assumed the post of Course Director of Criminal Practice and Procedure at the Hugh Wooding Law School, St Augustine, I quickly discovered that this excellent textbook, which was the backbone of the course, would serve as a valuable guide for both students and practitioners of criminal law. Subsequent to my appointment, Ms Seetahal released a revised fourth edition to the text that kept abreast of the latest developments in the law. I consider myself fortunate to have been asked by the publishers of the previous editions to do the honour of working on a new fifth edition of this text. It is my hope that the various updates I have inserted into the text will further enhance the quality of the text and ensure its continued status as an indispensable reference for all persons in the legal fraternity. Roger Ramgoolam is the course director for Criminal Practice and Procedure at Hugh Wooding Law School. Marge Steinhage Fenelon is a Catholic author, blogger, speaker, and longtime contributor to a variety of Catholic and secular publications and websites, including Our Sunday Visitor, National Catholic Register, Catholic Digest, and Catholic News Service. Her column, The Whirl, appears in the Milwaukee Catholic Herald, and her blog, Catholic to the Core, is on Patheos. Fenelon is the author of a number of books related to Marian devotion and Catholic family life, including Imitating Mary.Fenelon is a regular guest on Catholic radio, including Relevant Radio's Morning Air and EWTN's Son Rise Morning Show. She earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a certificate in spiritual mentoring from Cardinal Stritch University. Fenelon also holds a certificate in Marian studies from the International Marian Research Institute and is a member of the Mariological Society of America. Fenelon is a consecrated member of the Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt and an instructor for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's Permanent Deacon Wives Program. Still experiencing many graces as a result of praying through this book. Has had a profound positive impact upon myself and family. Cannot recommend this book enough.

What a beautiful way to pray this novena! I have prayed this novena many times in this past year and just love it, but this book helped me to pray it from a different perspective. Instead of just focusing on my immediate concern, it helped me think of the various conditions in my heart that might be causing problems for me. In addition, tying it to the author's trip to the Holy Land and including prayers for the Holy Land and all of the Middle East added yet more depth to the prayers. Marge's description of being at the sites connected with Our Lord's Passion were very moving. I was brought to tears just reading of her experience. I can't imagine how much more I would feel if I, too, had touched the places where Jesus paid the price for my sins. Those thoughts also gave me a chance to meditate on Mary's presence at those events. Beautiful book.
