So I recently ate at the restaurant Texas De Brazil and was so impressed with the food that I just had to have this cookbook! I'm absolutely thrilled over it! It has the recipes for all the different meats we ate that day in the restaurant as well as that fabulous Lobster bisque I had. Its very informative in the beginning about the different skewers to use for which cuts of meat. The special grill used to cook the meats, it has very detailed instructions on how to build your own, which my husband and I really loved because we are already planning on building it now! It also has instructions on how to build a 4 cross spit. This food is amazing using these recipes at home, just as it was in the restaurant! I'd buy this again if anything ever happened and have strongly recommended it to family and friends that love to grill, have been to the restaurant and loved it, or just like to try new and good food! This cookbook is absolutely amazing and saying I highly recommend it doesn't even cover how much I love this cookbook and food and think anyone should try it!

We love to eat at Texas de Brazil and the manager recommended this book to us when we were asking him how they cook their beef rib. We have tried several recipes and are very happy with the results. Of course nothing beats the atmosphere of actually going to the restaurant but when we are craving smoked and grilled Meats this book is a perfect reference for us. Just make sure you heed their advice and get the proper cuts of meat from a quality butcher.

After a trip to Brazil, I was completely hooked on churrasco! When I got home, I built a custom fire pit and churrasco stand that went over it to get everyone else hooked on it too. I bought this book solely for the recipes and had no intention of reading the first half of the book, but once I started I read the whole thing from cover to cover and loved it all. The author has a serious passion for his craft that is contagious. Whether you are just interested in Brazilian barbecue or you are obsessed with making it at home, you’ll love the book.

Giving to my daughter tomorrow for her b-day!She is a BIG FAN & love's Texas de Brazil in downtown Fort Worth...took her & her husbandthere last year for her b-day. Absolutely FANTASTIC!!

i go to brazil alot, and the many thing i love about their food was answered in this book. in america, we don't use wine to cook our roasted chicken but it adds so much flavor,

This is a beautiful book with lots of great stories, as well as nice pictures and recipes. Texas de Brazil is our favorite restaurant, and I've been going there for 16 years. Evandro and his wife are wonderful people.

This has been one of my favorite cook books. Must have if you're a meat eater. Some great recipes and stories.

Great instructions for preparing and grilling meat in this particular method. The only difficulty is in the limited number of butchers available who are willing to supply the cuts of meat suggested for the desired results.

First Grade US History: the first Americans. Warning this review contains spoilers. This book is entirely about the Paleo Indians, who were the first inhabitants of North America. I think this book is educational. There are many good facts within this book. This book does contain a few pictures. However since they are computer generated (there were no cameras back then) they didn’t capture my kid’s attention. I was even bored with the pictures. Overall it is worth the read and a good starting point in exploring the pre historic people who inhabited North America. This book starts out letting us know that the name given to them is just a classification for the first people who entered the American continents. We are told where they came from and how they got here. It is un known exactly when they first started coming over here from Asia. The book makes this fact clear by stating that they came at least 13,000 years ago, but perhaps they came much earlier. I think this is good, because it lets first graders know there are still unknowns. I wish when they introduce words like nomad, that they define it. They do describe the Paleo Indians as hunter, gathers. I like that we are told what animals they hunted. I know that this is evidenced in the fossil record. There are many good facts in this book. We learn that they used stone tools. It is great that we are told how the tools were used. They used projectile points to hunt. It would be nice to give an example of a projectile point like an arrowhead, or spear point for those who may not be familiar with the term. They discuss that they traveled in tribes carrying their belongings with them. This book tells how since they were here during the late ice age that climate changes caused them to have to move. Their food sources were changing and they moved once the implied food resources were depleted. The final page of this book gives us a great definition of Paleo. I wish this page were at the beginning of this book. It would have flowed better and made everything make more sense. I received this kindle e-book for free, (at the time of my review it is free to everyone,) in exchange for my honest review.

In dealing with “The First Americans” this one goes way back. “13,000 years ago and perhaps much earlier.” While this series is “US History” and others in this series may be a little ambiguous about what is US history and what is American history, this book doesn’t suffer from that uncertainty past the title. So, we’re not talking about “Indians” or even Native Americans in the sense that most people use that term today, but as the book puts it, “Paleo-Indians” or, I think, more accurately “Paleoamericans”.I do have to point out that most of this book is speculation. Most statements have or should have “perhaps” or “possibly” in them and most could use the qualifier “may have”. Almost none of the statements have supporting findings or even solid background, but this is a book intended for young readers and as most books are from this publisher, intended to inspire further study. It introduces a lot of broad ideas and expects the reader to find out more on their own.The pictures in this one are uninspiring, though I concede this one could be difficult to illustrate. They are all computer models of people and landscapes. Four of them are the same model and only in one of those four is his posture different. In that one however, he meets up with a female, and from an adult perspective, it’s rather comical, though I’m not sure I would want young boys spending too much time on that page…Overall, this book will provide a basis for discussion on how Native Americans came to live in the Americas.Disclaimer: I received this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I will give First Grade US History The First Americans 4 stars because of how much I enjoyed the format of the book. It alternated between two pages of text on a stony background to 2 pages of pictures. Oh what pictures they are.Let's talk about the text for a moment. The text was fairly appropriate for the target audience. This book was not too long so it would easily hold the attention of a first grader. Some of the vocabulary could have been better explained but if knowledgeable person is sharing this story with a 6-8 year old they would be able to explain it sufficiently. Like some of the other Baby Professor books I feel as if this book would have been made better by including graphics such as maps to help give the reader a more concrete idea of how the Paleo-Indians came to inhabit North America. Now let's get to the pictures. Wow. They are at the same time thought provoking and amusing. I can tell that a great deal of time was put into these illustrations, I'm assuming they were computer created. They range from creepy to downright amusing. I have added a few of my favorites to the photos below to give an idea of what I'm talking about. Note the ultimate fluffy softness of that mammoth. It looks like he's doing a Pantene commercial! Then there is the sexually charged cave woman chilling by the fire. I bet you know what the guy to the left is describing the length of (how they exaggerate!). Then there is the Paleo-Indian sent to the future. If nothing else get the book to enjoy the accompanying pictures.

This is the best book I've ever read arguing for free speech. Rauch argues that suppressing offensive speech whether by government or private institutions actually harms the cause of who are offended. He uses himself as a gay man as an example of an oppressed minority that greatly benefited from the free speech during the time that homosexuality became morally acceptable to most Americans.I love this book. It has a rigorous and unique argument. This book was written 25 years ago, but it is more relevant now than it was then. I am horrified by the current climate of the regulation of speech not by government but by private institutions such as universities, the media, and corporations. There are daily online mob attacks on those who have said something that someone considers offensive. In my mind it's out of control.According to Rauch without free speech the path to truth is severely constrained. I heartily agree with this sentiment. I highly recommend this book.

As someone who values free speech, limited experience at my college has taught me that not everyone else does, whether or not they admit it. More and more these days it seems like people are content to take the easy way out and stifle opinions that they don't agree with, and this happens on both sides of the political spectrum. The core message of Rauch's book, which is still relevant today, is liberal scientific inquiry, the methodical pursuit and acquisition of knowledge, is the best way to decide what is true. It's basically evolutionary theory and the scientific method applied to epistemology. All other roads lead to totalitarianism. For the casual reader, the early, philosophy-heavy sections might be a little dense, but it's definitely worth the effort. This is a book that has stood the test of time, and thankfully we've made progress since the early 90's. If you care in the least about liberty, I highly suggest you pick up a copy and start reading it immediately.

This magnificent piece of writing is a potential balm for campuses that seem to be divided along ideological lines, and is a must-read for students and professors interested in making the very most out of the potential of university educational experiences. The book is both compassionate and edgy, delving without apology into the humanitarian and egalitarian principles that support the seemingly humane circumscription of expression of thought on campus. The author then provides an unblinking and foreword-thinking observation of the end to which attempts to maintain the ideals of political correctness in the university lead: creed and culture wars. Throughout the book the author makes a convincing case for a strength-based and affirming solution that serious thinkers from across the ideological spectrum will be able to live with, and with practice and discipline, enact. This is a book about the long game of advocacy that students in a post-Orlando world need to read. This is a book for our times, written by a gay man who is a gay rights activist, and who has lived to witness both intense oppression and inspiring social change. He clearly outlines a set of strength-based and ideologically neutral principles for advocacy and social change, while also providing a well-reasoned and straightforward description of the pitfalls into which those of us who care deeply about people may fall in misguided, and ultimately destructive, endeavors to promote sensitivity in the university. What Rauch has to say is challenging and beautiful. For professors who are considering using this book (I am assigning it for my graduate-level human development class next fall) I suggest having students read the last chapter first, and I also suggest having students watch the utube interviews with Rauch early in the class (his gentleness and genuine care for others is more apparent in the last chapter and the interviews than it is in the initial chapters of the book, and knowing the author better may help cautious students to engage with some challenging material).

This is the best book I have ever read on the topic of freedom of speech. Everyone should read this book. It explains why JUST being an oppressed minority is not enough reason to be considered CORRECT on its own, and why tolerance of offensive speech can actually promote the freedom of minorities. A lot of it is set in the 1990's when the "free speech zone" type controversies on college campuses were new, but it's just as relevant today and will explain why you feel torn between being nice and being right. The last part of the book updates everything and talks about how gay rights came to be accepted in a startlingly short period of time. Extremely valuable read!

Jonathan Rauch's definition of fundamentalism is critically important for us all to consider: the unwillingness to consider that you might be wrong. Many people define fundamentalism as taking things too literally or being too fanatical. But fundamentalism is really about the cognitive closure that all humans are prone to when we think we have the right answer, right attitude, right idea. If you are not willing to consider you might be wrong--if you no longer hear anything of value on "the other side" or from ideas that contradict yours, you too are a fundamentalist. This book does a great job of explaining how today's liberal ideologies violate true liberal principles. It's easy to point the finger at the most extreme religious fundamentalists, but sadly today's liberals are (generally) as fundamentalist as any religious sect. We need to be vigilant about our own tendencies and be vigilant of what passes for enlightenment within our own tribe.

With a plot equally as twisty, spellbinding, and addictive as Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl or Paula Hawkins’s The Girl on the Train, this is sure to be a hit with suspense fans.” (Library Journal (starred review)) “Constantine’s debut novel is the work of two sisters in collaboration, and these ladies definitely know the formula. A Gone Girl-esque confection with villainy and melodrama galore.” (Kirkus Reviews (starred review)) “To the pantheon of Gone Girl–type bad girls you can now add Amber Patterson, the heroine of this devilishly ingenious debut thriller. . . . The reader watches with shock and delight as Amber cold-bloodedly manipulates Daphne and Jackson and lays waste to anyone else who stands in her way. . . . To say any more would spoil all the twists that Constantine (the pseudonym of sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine) has in store along the way to a surprising and entirely satisfying ending. Suffice it to say that readers would have to go back to the likes of Ira Levin’s A Kiss Before Dying or Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley to find as entertaining a depiction of a sociopathic monster.” (Publishers Weekly (starred review)) “The twists keep coming in this psychological roller coaster from debut author Constantine, the pen name of sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine…this is a satisfying thriller that offers a window into the darker side of glamorous lives and powerful men.” (Booklist) “Wonderfully plausible, hypnotically compelling, and deliciously chilling and creepy—some of the best psychological suspense you’ll read this year.” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author) “A wonderfully clever story, filled with suspense and a shocking twist, that kept me turning the pages.”   (Jane Green, New York Times bestselling author of The Sunshine Sisters) “The Last Mrs. Parrish is an extraordinary debut and gripping psychological thriller that is full of unexpected twists. Readers will become obsessed with these chilling characters who pull you in and refuse to let go.” (Sara Blaedel, Denmark's award-winning internationally bestselling "Queen of Crime") “Liv Constantine’s The Last Mrs. Parrish is a beautifully constructed set piece, an intricate narrative that doubles back and folds in on itself like a Mobius strip, revealing secret upon secret, and layer upon layer, with a seductive ‘just one more chapter’ urgency that will keep readers up all night. Giving new meaning to the adage ‘be careful what you wish for,’ The Last Mrs. Parrish proves that the worst that can happen just might be when you get what you want. Addictive!” (Karen Dionne, author of The Marsh King’s Daughter) “Gillian Flynn meets Joy Fielding in Liv Constantine’s The Last Mrs. Parrish. In an age of great anti-heroines, comes the most unlikeable one yet, the coldly devilish Amber Patterson. This thriller delivers the most satisfying ending since B.A. Paris’ smash hit Behind Closed Doors—and a victorious romp of revenge.” (Jenny Milchman, USA Today bestselling author of Cover of Snow, Ruin Falls, and As Night Falls)

Let's hear it for escapism! Not everything I read and enjoy has to be "literature", sometimes I need to follow a long literary tome with something frivolous and deliciously fun. "The Last Mrs. Parrish", by two sisters who write under the name, Liv Constantine, is exactly the transition novel I needed this week (it will make an excellent travel/holiday novel and eventually a film)!"The Last Mrs. Parrish", is what I like to call "Wealth Porn". Part of its appeal derives from the meticulously detailed descriptions of the lives and luxuries of the Very Very Wealthy: private jets, opulent homes, designer clothes/shoes/handbags/lingerie, jewelry, et. Now, this might not appeal to every reader, but I'm happy with my Never-in-Business-Class lot in life, so I'm not crushed with envy, instead it's fun to imagine how the other 1% lives while eating my home-made lunch at my desk. Throw in a suspenseful and just-complicated-enough plot, plus a dash of twists, and I'm having a grand ole time.Amber Patterson is a completely amoral young woman who has designed a detailed and diabolical plan to acquire wealthy entrepreneur, Jackson Parrish, via a fake-friendship with his wife, Daphne. You don't really need to know more than that! Who need Major Themes, Symbolism, and Life Lessons? Is the villain TOO villainous? Yep. Will you anticipate some of the twists? Sure! So what?! Just jump in and enjoy!

****SPOILERS AHEAD****I can honestly say I didn't like The Last Mrs. Parrish, not one bit. I'm disappointed. It was on Reese's Book Club, and had raving reviews. But, I honestly can't say it had many redeeming qualities. My review can't be done without some spoilers. Please do NOT read this if you do not want to know what the twist of this book is.I liked the idea of Amber; I thought she was cunning, manipulative, and deliciously evil. That is, until she called guacamole "green goo" and said she hated avocados. I mean, what kind of person...anyway. The thing that bothered me is that the author's didn't let Amber be all the way evil. She would do something horrible, unforgivable, and then admit she felt a "little guilty", and justify her behavior. In my opinion, if you're going to make a evil character, especially if you are taking the readers along by that character's perspective, really go for it.Then, the "twist" was awfully predictable. Maybe because I had just read The Wife Between Us, which had a similar story line, but was executed much better, in my opinion. The tagline of The Last Mrs. Parrish is "Some women get everything. Some women get everything they deserve." Amber was a horrible person, yes. But, Daphne ended up taking the cake in my opinion. Amber went after her husband, lied about who she was, tricked her, deceived her. But, Daphne found out, and tricked Amber right back into seducing her abusive husband away from her. Please, explain to me how a woman could ever deserve a life filled with domestic abuse? I don't care how evil Amber is, she did not deserve to be married to a man as horrible as Jackson. To have the entire tagline of your book rely on the fact that a women deserves to be emotionally and physically abused the rest of her life just doesn't sit well with me. Women are supposed to lift each other up and stick together. Amber broke that, yes, but Daphne destroyed it as well.I rated it more than one star because the writing was really good. I find it absolutely amazing that Liv Constantine is the pen name for two sisters that don't even live in the same state! How they managed to write a seamless book is beyond me!Read more of my reviews at Amy Reads It, amypauline.com

I'm conflicted about this thriller. There were times I felt like I was barely reading a three star book and other times it almost reached a five. I decided to meet in the middle and settled on four stars. I'm still not sure that was the correct choice...SUMMARYThe story, initially told from Amber's point of view, opens with Amber orchestrating an "accidental" meeting at the gym between herself and Daphne Parish. Daphne is the wife of Jackson Parrish, one of the most wealthy, influential (not to mention good-looking) men in a Connecticut town full of wealthy, influential people.Daphne seems to have to perfect life; a handsome, very rich husband, two adorable girls and one of the most beautiful homes in town full of beautiful homes. The only downside seems to be that she desperately misses her sister who died from CF (Cystic Fibrosis) almost twenty years earlier. Aside from her husband and children, Daphne's passion is the not-for-profit, Julie's Smile, she started in her sisters honor.Because she is a girl who does her homework, Amber knows to use a feigned CF connection to insinuate herself into Daphne's life. It works like a charm. Soon the two women become fast friends, bonding over the loss of their beloved sisters - pretend loss on Ambers part.It becomes clear early on that Amber's end goal is to steal Jackson from Daphne, becoming the next Mrs. Parrish. It seems she will go to any lengths to get what she wants.Part two is told from Daphne's point of view, and that's where the book gets interesting. Is there more to the story than there appears to be? Is Daphne more than an over privileged housewife with a staff of household help and a charmed life? Author, Liv Constantine (actually co-authoring sisters, Valerie and Lynne Constantine), slowly reveals the story behind the story and it's quite a tale!!!WHAT I LOVEDInitially, I thought I was reading kind of a flat 'been there, done that' recycled plot. Not a bad one, but not very unique. I kept going because this book received positive reviews from some of my GR friends so I knew it had to be good. Glad I did!! Although there were a few clues dropped during Amber's narrative, letting the reader know there would be more to the story, the plot really picked up once Daphne's account began. I love that the story is told by two different characters. It was so much fun to hear what each was thinking about various events. The main twist, which was revealed about halfway through the book, was AWESOME! I LOVED it so much!!! It was one of those five star moments.I loved the parts of the book including Daphne and Jackson's girls, Bella and Tallulah. Bella brought some honest kid moments, expressing her opinion without a filter. It was amusing. At first I didn't like Daphne as a character, but she grew on me and by the end I loved her!!There was a lot more to love, but those are the highlights.WHAT I DIDN'T LOVESome parts were a bit predictable. I wasn't super impressed with some of the things Jackson did and said, he seemed like many male characters in books I've read before. Most of the characters were pretty black and white. The 'good' characters were very good, probably wearing halo's but the bad characters were pretty irredeemable. I've prefer characters with a little more grey. The end tied things up a little to nearly. I do like a clear, defined ending, but this was just a little too perfect and convenient. Don't get me wrong, I was happy it ended that way but it was just too neat of a bow on the package.OVERALLAddictively readable thriller which was more than I expected.

The Gorings did what many of us want to do: Move to a Caribbean island and let the hectic pace of the rest of the world go by. Donna Goring and her husband, Brian, visited Antigua, one of the Leeward Islands, some 20 times before renting out their British Colubmia home and moving to Antigua. They lived there for a year and Donna sent home e-mails describing the life, the changes and adjustments, the good and the bad that she and Brian experienced. Their insights and stories are valuable for anyone interested in living long-term on a tropical island--especially one that is still a developing nation. I've also been to Antigua many times, though not as often as Donna and Brian. I can identify with her accounts of beautiful simplicity and frustrating delays that are a part of the rich mosaic of Antiguan life. There is both gay frivolity and sorrow as their year in Antigua closes, and they make their move back to Canada. I think this is an excellent book for the traveler or tourist, or anyone thinking about moving to the beautiful island of Antigua.

I lived on Antigua for four years, as an employee of the US Government, so I am experienced with Antigua. The book is fairly well written giving an interesting perspective about life on Antigua. There are some inaccuracies, so the reader should keep this in mind if planing a long time visit to Antigua.

Our son is currently living and working on the beautiful Island of Antigua and we recently spent a couple of weeks there visiting him. Reading about this couples experiences was both interesting and entertaining, especially as we had been to most of the places they mention in the book.

It's a good read about the realities of moving to and living in Antigua, BWI.It may put you off the idea, or it will prepare you for the quiet life of living on a beautiful island 3 hours from the US.

An enjoyable read, Dancing in the Dining Room offers a day-to-day, ground level account of life in a beautiful but challenging setting. Living in a tropical paradise does not guarantee every single thing will be perfect. This is, however, a good account of friends, determination and compassion.

This book may be of some interest to people who live in or travel frequently to Antigua, since there are references to familiar places on the island, but it is not very well written and does not hold a reader's attention.
