This book is as pretty to look at and as charming to read as I had hoped. It is also as difficult to use as I had expected. Be prepared to spend a good deal of time hunting the ingredients down (stem ginger, anyone?), or just forging ahead and hoping for the best (what is "mixed spice"?). I live in a large, foodie-oriented city, and just gathering the ingredients for a ginger cake and spelt muffins took real effort. The two recipes I made were disappointing; maybe the Brits just like dry cake and dusty muffins! Regardless, this is a fun book to have if not to use.
Love this show and love this book. I'm baking one item per week from front to back. I've done 3 cakes so far. I share them with the chefs at work who enjoy them. I'm learning so much about baking. Highly recommend this book. There is a conversion table in the back but I suggest that you buy an electronic scale. Castor suger is just super refined white sugar but I found castor sugar locally. Icing sugar is confectioner's sugar.

Love this book, very entertaining. Great recipes. I appreciate all the photos, detailed instructions, and especially appreciate the equivalent measure helps, and the alternate ingredient suggestions for items that may be difficult to obtain in our location.We are building a collection of cookbooks from this series.
I have bought this book twice as gifts now after receiving it for Christmas. If you love the show get the book. If you didn't know it was a show go watch it then get the book. Pictures are gorgeous and instructions simple. Some recipes a bit complex but I love a few challenging bakes.
We just love this British program and the moderators and staff that conduct the contests with great wit and enthusiasm. We also learn a lot about British foods and how to prepare them.
I am currently watching the 2016 season of the Great British Bake Off, and I am so happy that there is a cookbook associated with it. Every time I watch this show, it makes me want to whisk up something amazing, and now I have the exact book I need to do so. Can't wait to start baking! Especially the breads, they look amazing! The pictures in these books are wonderful.
